-We have an exciting position for a Fixed Network COM Technician who will provide technical assistance to maintenance personnel proactively on complex mechanical systems, equipment and processes to continuously enhance Mining equipment performance and availability.

Kumba Iron Ore

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Rosebank, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.


Job Description
-As a Fixed Network COM Technician, you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include:

  • Consistently apply Safety & Health principles in all team interactions and take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
  • Identify specific risks within working area and adhere to discipline-specific plans/system to avoid these risks.
  • Implement Safety & Health systems within work area.
  • Build, manage and maintain healthy relations with stakeholders to Technical Standards. Translates knowledge into meaningful input to projects and operations to enhance business performance.
  • Contribute to the development of the Department budget.
  • Identify any opportunities for improved cost management and either address these, or raise them with your supervisor, as appropriate.
  • Keep environmental impact within statutory requirements to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
  • All work is performed in accordance with SHEQ standards.
  • Adhere to all health and safety practices requirements and promote good. housekeeping to ensure compliance and an environment where team members can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment.

This role is in the AS&R: Maintenance Planning Department on a Band 7 reporting to the Engineering Technologist.


  • Qualifications
    -Grade 12 Certificate.
  • National Diploma (Electrical Engineering-Light Current).
  • B-Tech Electrical Engineering (Advantageous).
  • Valid South African Driver’s Licence.

Experience:

  • Relevant Operational exposure (communication hardware experience).
  • Telemetry Experience, PLC and Scada.
